Frequently Asked Questions
Have questions about pet insurance and how it works? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered.
What does it mean for a pet to have a medical condition that's pre-existing?
A pre-existing condition is defined as any illness or injury that occurs or becomes symptomatic before coverage begins or during the waiting period. Conditions can be considered pre-existing even if they have not been treated or diagnosed by a vet; all that matters is when the condition occurred or when symptoms began.
Spot Pet Insurance plans will not cover pre-existing conditions, but if an injury or illness is curable, cured, and has been treatment and symptom free for 180 days it will no longer be considered pre-existing and can be eligible for coverage. The exception is knee and ligament conditions, if one occurs before coverage begins or during the waiting period, future knee and ligament conditions will not be covered.
Can I get cash back for routine teeth cleanings?
While routine teeth cleanings are not covered under our accident-only or accident and illness base plans, pet parents can get cash back on this service through the purchase of an optional preventive care add-on. Opting into a preventive care add-on can also help with the cost of a wellness exams, vaccines, and more.
At what age should I insure my pet?
Spot does not have an upper age limit for new enrollments and your pet will never age out of our coverage. Our best advice is that pet parents enroll their pets while they are still young, before they have the change the develop a “pre-existing condition” before they’re insured. Spot can cover kittens and puppies as young as 8 weeks old.
Does Spot cover exam fees?
Spot’s base plans will cover exam fees for covered conditions. Pet parents looking for cash back on wellness exams will need to purchase an optional preventive care add-on which can be added to your base plan for a small fee.
