What are Some Common Vet Emergencies?

There are some common vet emergencies that pet owners may encounter:

Allergies

Cats and dogs can suffer from allergies that are environment, seasonal, or dietary. While most allergies do not require immediate attention, a pet’s reaction can be so severe that vet expertise is required.

Bite Wounds

Wounds from a bite from another animal or insect could be so severe that they require stitches or become infected.

Broken Bones

If your pet gets into an accident during play or an altercation with another animal, they may require broken bone surgery.

Heatstroke

The main signs of heat stroke in dogs to look out for include excessive panting, labored breathing, drooling, vomiting, diarrhea, and appearing unsteady or collapsing.

What is Excluded from Pet Insurance for Emergencies?

While pet insurance can certainly help you by covering the costs of eligible vet expenses, some things pet insurance cannot help you with include the following:

  • Boarding and kennel fees

  • Breeding costs

  • Expenses not related to veterinary care

  • Grooming

  • Pre-existing conditions

How Much Will Pet Insurance Cover for Emergency Vet Bills?

Depending on the kind of pet insurance policy that you sign up for, you could get reimbursed for a certain percentage of the bill. You will most likely be required to pay the veterinary bill upfront and then file a claim to receive the reimbursement from Spot later on.
