Why is pet insurance important in Wisconsin?

Canine Brucellosis

Caused by the Brucella bacteria, Brucellosis primarily affects the reproductive organs of male and female dogs. Wisconsin has seen several cases of pets having this disease. Infertility in males and late abortions in females are some of the main consequences of it. Apart from that, it can cause testicular or scrotal inflammation in male dogs. Some major symptoms of it include vaginal discharge, swollen testicles, and inflammation of the skin around the scrotum. Infected fluids, especially during breeding or birth form the main avenues for spreading this disease. It can be a very difficult disease to diagnose. But once done, early treatment and regular follow-ups are recommended.

Some venomous snakes in this state include coral snakes, water moccasins (cottonmouths), copperheads, and rattlesnakes. One of the best ways to prevent a venomous snake bite is by avoiding them. Keep your dog on a leash and stay alert at all times while walking through wooded or grassy areas. If your pet does get bitten by a snake, get them to a veterinarian as soon as possible even if you don’t think the snake was venomous. Pet Insurance FAQs

Have questions about pet insurance and how it works? Let’s dig up an answer.

Are there any Types of Incident or Lifetime Caps?

With accident & illness plans provided by Spot, there is no type of per incident limits or lifetime caps.

What does dog insurance typically cover?

Generally, pet insurance covers eligible costs for diagnostics and treatments for unexpected injuries, accidents, and illnesses, like surgery, medication, tests/diagnostics, and emergency care. Spot plans also cover microchip implantation, exam fees for covered conditions, and prescription diets and supplements to treat covered conditions (Spot plans do not cover prescription diets or supplements for general health and weight maintenance. Learn more about what does pet insurance cover.

Why doesn’t pet insurance cover pre-existing conditions?

Plans provided by Spot do not cover pre-existing conditions.

A pre-existing condition is any injury or illness which occurs or shows symptoms before coverage starts or during a waiting period. A condition is considered pre-existing whether or not it’s been officially diagnosed or treated; all that matters is when it occurred or symptoms first displayed.

However, with plans provided by Spot, this doesn’t mean the condition can’t be covered in the future if the condition is curable. An injury or illness that is curable, cured, and free of treatment and symptoms for 180 days will no longer be regarded as pre-existing, with the exception of knee and ligament conditions. If a knee or ligament condition occurs before the coverage effective date or during a waiting period, any future ones won’t be covered.

Do you have to euthanize a dog with brucellosis?

The treatment can be quite expensive, especially without insurance. Even after treatment, there are chances of the organism being present in tissues, such as the prostate, uterus, lymph nodes, or spleen. In extreme cases, euthanizing may be a valid option.

Can a dog recover from Laryngeal paralysis?

The symptoms can be limited by medical treatments and especially with alternative therapies like acupuncture and acupressure, but it would be unlikely for dogs with Laryngeal paralysis to make a full recovery.
