What is Pet Insurance?

Pet insurance is a type of coverage that helps cover the cost of vet care for your pet by reimbursing up to 90% of covered vet bills. It can help cover unexpected accidents and illnesses, as well as routine preventive care. With pet insurance, you can help protect your pet's health and potentially avoid significant financial burdens in case of unexpected vet bills.

What are Waiting Periods?

A waiting period is the period of time between the date you enroll and the date your coverage begins. Most insurance policies will have a waiting period before you can start receiving reimbursements on covered vet bills.

Spot plans have a waiting period of 14 days for accidents and illnesses. If you decide to purchase a preventive care coverage option, your wellness coverage starts the next day.

Are there any Types of Incident or Lifetime Caps?

With accident & illness plans provided by Spot, there are no per-incident limits or lifetime caps. Spot plans use annual deductibles and annual limits both of which are chosen from a range of options by the pet parent when customizing their policy.

What is the best age to insure my pet?

Spot plans don’t have upper age limits for new enrollments or coverage. We advise all pet parents to enroll their pets as soon as they are eligible, at 8 weeks old. This lowers the chance that your pet may develop a “pre-existing condition,” which will then not be eligible for coverage once they are insured. Read more about insurance for multiple pets here.

Can I Sign My Pet Up Anytime?

Yes! Pets 8 weeks and older can be enrolled at any time. Spot has no upper age limit and no enrollment periods.

How are My Pet Insurance Premiums Calculated?

In general, your premium is based on your pet’s age, your pet’s breed, and where your pet lives. Some other factors that impact your premium are: the plan you choose, your deductible, your reimbursement percentage, if you have included preventative care coverage or not, and the discounts for which you are eligible.

Why Does Pet Insurance Go Up?

These necessary increases give you the opportunity to help get your pet the best medical treatment options available for covered conditions.

Additionally, premiums are affected by your pet’s age, as the risk for more costly claims increases as they get older.

Spot Pet Insurance strives to provide plans with coverage that continues well into your pet’s old age by not placing upper-age limitations on coverage or enrollments, and your premium will not increase because you file a claim.

We lead the pack.
